Cormac Breathnach:

I grew up in Ireland riding sport horses and was an avid fan of racing, and a student of pedigrees. I moved to Lexington in 1996 for one reason: Horses.  Lexington is truly a unique place - because of its horse industry.

I worked at the Gluck Equine Research Center at UK between 1996 and 2007. During this time I also worked part-time at numerous stud farms, at Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland sales, and with other bloodstock agents.

In 2007 I left UK to pursue my career as a self-employed bloodstock consultant.  I currently assist Adena Springs with the sales of nominations to their twelve excellent stallions that stand at their farm in Bourbon County. This is my chosen career, and I could not ask for more. I work hard to bring new clients into the horse racing and breeding industry, and to continue the success of those who are already in it.

I am continually faced with the reality that Central Kentucky is losing its standing in the industry. It has already lost out to the economic advances of other states' programs.  The horse industry is a major part of Central Kentucky's economy, landscape and identity. It should be respected, protected and nurtured, just like its horses.
