Julie Bernier:
I have been exposed to horses all of my life. My family had horses when I was born. My father showed his Quarter Horse "Buck" in halter classes. Growing up, I would go to the local horse barn and take lessons or just hang out. I showed a little, but I really just like to trail ride. I like to explore and have fun with my horses out on the trails. In my industry, it is hard to find horse trails that are maintained and ones that you don't have to share with bikes. My husband and I volunteer with the NKY Horse Network to help dig and form the horse trails. My husband and I also are certified to ride at the Cincinnati Airport, to help with surveillance and to enjoy the land. However, that land is closed now because of hunting season. They have also informed us that they do not know when the trails will be opened back up for horses again because of the expansion of one of the shipping companies. I do take my horses camping in Indiana or Southern Kentucky. I am members of the American Quarter Horse Association, and the American Paint Horse Association. My husband and I are members of the Northern Kentucky Horse Network. When we moved from Louisville, KY to Walton KY in September of 2008, we bought an old Thoroughbred Horse Farm known as Twin Oaks Farm. This farm was home of the infamous Bally Ache. Now, the farm is Blue Star Farm and is home to Gary and I, Kennedy (6yr old daughter), three horses, two dogs and two cats.
