Kathy Caudill:
I have always known and loved horses. My grandfather was a postal carrier on horseback. He delivered the mail for Montgomery County and I would ride with him. I was the only grandchild out of 22 that showed an interest in horses. By the age of two, I had my own pony and was riding Walking Horses by myself.
I was born and raised in Montgomery County where I grew up in the 4-H club riding and doing Drill Team. I first met my husband there, who rode and showed Quarter Horses. He told me he wouldn't date me until I did too.
I went to Bristol, Virginia where I attended Sullivan College, an equine college, to ride horses and study in their equine program. Sadly, it closed after my freshman year.
I have had a variety of horses: Walking Horses, Quarter Horses, Buckskins, Paints, and Palominos in a variety of disciplines: Hunter Jumpers, Eventing Horses, Team Roping, and Reining. Through it all I have been married to my 4-H sweetheart for almost 24 years. We have two children, Katie and Myers. Katie, my oldest, is at OSU studying Animal Science and Myers, my youngest, is finishing High School, and is interested in roping and reining.
After my battle with cancer, I started painting as therapy. First, I just wanted a portrait of my kids and from there I started drawing and painting what I loved, horses being one of them. I also paint other animals and people, but mainly horses. I am really good with pastels and oils, painting anything with eyes and hair. I am really good with eyes and hair.
I love to ride, mainly trail riding is my passion these days, working on trails, making new trails and riding with my dear friend Edith Conyers on trails around the country and even in Europe. I recently purchased my first mule for trail riding. We are still getting to know each other.
I have been blessed in my life to raise my kids on the family farm, where three generations have lived, owned, raised, and shown horses in Kentucky. Why would I want to be anywhere else?
