Stephanie England-Grey:
Stephanie England - Grey first became a KEEP Team Leader in 2005 but her love of horses, Kentucky and equine education came long before that. She has honestly had a lifelong love of horses. Growing up around amateur riders and boarders at Little Britain Stables, Stephanie and Little Britain are one. Stephanie's father began the stables when she was only a child.
Located in Burlington, KY for 30 years, Little Britain Stables has been welcoming horses and riders for over 45 years and so has she. "This was my social life, my whole life. I loved my horses and learning from all the wonderful amateur riders in the stables as a child," she says. "Thoroughbred trainers, Saddlebred trainers, you name it we had it."
And now, owning and running the place with her husband, Paul, is a dream come true. With indoor and outdoor arenas, the 90 acres of varied landscapes makes this facility an asset to many disciplines of riding and driving. There have been as many as twenty different breeds of horses and ponies stabled at the farm at one time.
Last fall, LBS, was hit hard by the wind storms. "Ripped the roof right off the upper barn," she shared. "I honestly have seen nothing like it before. So much wind yet no rain pouring in, everything was a mess."
All the horses had to be moved to the lower barn, with the riding arena. Temporary stalls were placed in the arena to house all the horses until a new barn could be built. An estimated completion date of May 1st is the target to open the new boarding barn, or upper barn as she calls it. "On our thirty year anniversary of doing business in Burlington, we were excited to announce the grand reopening of the new barn for our boarders," she says with a smile. "Prices vary from economy board to full board and training. We try to have something for everyone."
Access to a riding school and training has made LBS a good fit for beginners and amateur owners and trainers. Disciplines of riding that can be seen here include Saddleseat riding, Hunt Seat, Dressage, and Western style. Little Britain Stables offers services ranging from boarding, horsemanship programs, riding clubs, riding schools, camps and more!
In addition to all these amenities, LBS also has full size equine simulators from England, which are a unique asset to the stable. The lessons are given on the simulators during extreme weather conditions that otherwise would be dangerous to harmful to horses or riders. For competition, the simulators are added to the riders' routine to target specific areas of concern. The simulators have been successfully used to rehabilitate riders who have newly healed injuries.
While using the simulators, riders may observe their side view by watching the monitors directly in front of them. This will maximize the benefit of this equipment. The school horses also appreciate the simulators taking the burden of repetitive movements that must be perfected in order to be a "light" rider on the horse. Simulators never get tired or misbehave during a lesson.
LBS has a new program called "It's Just Riding". The objective of the "It's Just Riding" is to promote the art of horsemanship and friendship along with a personal approach to learning for the adult rider. Stress relief and exercise being but two of the many benefits.
